Intermodal transportation combines the best of two worlds: the cost efficiency of rail for long-haul distances and the door-to-door flexibility of trucking for the first and last mile. Cargo Shuffle manages the entire intermodal move as a single, coordinated service — so you deal with one provider, one invoice, and one point of accountability.

Our intermodal service covers origin drayage (picking up your container and delivering it to the rail ramp), rail transit across Canada's national rail network, and destination drayage (pulling the container from the destination ramp and delivering it to your facility). We work with CN and CP Rail to provide reliable transit times on high-volume corridors. Our equipment lineup includes 20ft, 40ft, and 53' containers, giving you the flexibility to match container size to your load volume.

Intermodal is particularly cost-effective on lanes of 500 miles or more, where rail transit can deliver savings of 10–40% compared to over-the-road trucking. It's also a greener option — rail produces significantly lower carbon emissions per tonne-kilometre than highway transport, helping you meet your sustainability targets without sacrificing service.
